Much attention is given to men losing hair, but reports show that by age 60, almost 40% of females will experience hair loss. The bad news is women can have the same genetic disposition for hair loss as men and are more prone to hormonal fluctuations that can create women's hair loss. In order to treat the condition, it's important to understand the cause. Though the source may differ, in most cases it is due to DHT (di-hydrotestosterone-a waste product from the male hormone testosterone) building up in the follicle's receptor sites. This build up cuts off the blood flow and causes miniaturization of the follicle. What results is a weakened follicle that is much more prone to fallout, thinner and more brittle hair, and an inability to grow to normal lengths. Left untreated, the follicle will eventually die and rejuvenation is impossible. So DHT is our culprit in women's hair loss... keep this in the back of your mind as you read on. Some women may experience similar "pattern" thinning like men (temporal recession-crown), but most experience an overall diffused pattern on the top. The hair just seems to get thinner and thinner. Now the good news here is you're female! Huh? That's correct, though the clock is ticking regarding your follicles-it ticks much slower than the male version. Being female, you just don't produce as much DHT as men (remember, DHT comes from the male hormone-) and though you may see a rise (or several-over the years) of DHT in your system, in most cases it is a temporary spike. These rises in DHT levels can come from many sources: Pregnancy, menopause, use of certain types of birth controls, stress, medications, thyroid imbalance and even nutrition. These periods cause the DHT to build up, periodically and weaken the follicle. Often, the case is not a dead follicle, but a damaged one. Women can have damaged follicles for years without knowing that these follicles can be rejuvenated in a relatively short time. Other "life" factors come into play when treating women's hair loss. Styling -or we should say-over styling hair can exacerbate an already damaged by DHT follicle. Perms, coloring, relaxers, etc. bombard your hair and scalp with harsh chemicals. Though generally not the cause, to a weakened follicle and hair shaft these chemicals can only make the condition worse. Also, weaves and extensions create a natural "pull" on the follicle. Again, in a weakened state, these follicles are more likely to shed or experience breakage. Healthy hair can rebound fairly quickly from these factors, so it's especially important to get treatment if you engage in these activities. WOMEN'S HAIR LOSS TREATMENTSMost doctors would only recommend topical treatments to women, that is, those treatments applied directly to the scalp. Pills and medications designed for hair loss, though widely prescribed for men, can have severe side effects on women and generally should be avoided. Of the hundreds of topical treatments, many contain Minoxidil, the main ingredient in Rogaine. Though Minoxidil is a legitimate option, it also comes with a legitimate downside; such as potential side effects including, but not limited to, scalp irritations, swelling of the hands and feet, hair growth in unwanted areas of the body, heart palpitations, etc., etc. (it's a long list...) It also requires usage of twice a day for life. In summary Minoxidil is a stimulant designed to improve blood flow to your scalp and you must continue to stimulate or lose any improvements it has created. Other products, though natural, mimic Minoxidil in terms of stimulation, or they help clean the scalp thoroughly or deliver nutrients to the follicles. And while all of these approaches to stop hair loss indeed do help, in most cases the results are a "slowing down" of the hair loss process, temporary or simply not strong enough to do much. If we know that DHT is the problem, then wouldn't common sense dictate that in order to rejuvenate follicles and hair growth, we have to deal with the DHT directly? This is what most products on the market miss. Cleaning a scalp is always good, but it doesn't remove DHT. Saturating your follicles with nutrients? Okay, but nutrients aren't reaching the follicle due to the build up of DHT- so the amount doesn't matter as much as the delivery! Pump blood into the scalp? Sure, that will help... but it still DOESN'T ADDRESS THE DHT! Now you're probably wondering, "Is there anything that won't give me side effects and targets THE CAUSE of my hair loss?" KEVIS - THE TREATMENT FOR WOMEN'S HAIR LOSSThe Kevis Hair Rejuvenation Program is designed for both men and women. In Europe (the product originates from Italy) approximately 60% of Kevis clients are female. The two main ingredients in Kevis are both safe and effective (89-95% in published clinical studies)in treating women's hair loss. These two ingredients, H.U.C.P. and H.S.O.R. Tricozyme, are actually two elements found naturally in the human body. Their main functions in our bodies are as hormone inhibitors. The scientists and inventors of Kevis saw this during cardio-vascular research and made the connection to DHT (a hormonal by-product). At Kevis, the two elements are carefully bio-engineered into a water based treatment that is simply applied to the scalp after a shower or before bed. Application takes about a minute or two. When absorbed (5-15 minutes) the Kevis treatment will perform three basic functions: 1) Break down and remove old DHT from the follicle. 2) Seal the follicle and prevent further DHT build up, and 3) Render the DHT molecules in the scalp inactive, thereby preventing them from attaching to the follicle. Once accomplished the follicle will grow again and resume it's normal cycles. Almost every woman can benefit by using the Kevis treatment. Many only need to use the program for a short period of time, while others indulge in maintenance to keep their hair looking as full and vibrant as possible. All programs are designed for each and every individual, as no two hair problems are alike. It's best to call and discuss your particular situation with a trained consultant here at Kevis in order to serve your needs. |
